In a number of backward societies, men and women wear magical incantations that are believed to have the power to prevent conception as well as to increase the chances of conception. Examples of such  incantations are the snake girdle, trying an ivory tube containing either  the liver of a cat or a part of Lioness's  womb. Some people  in India use mantras and yantras for such purpose.

Father  fakes Pangs of Child birth
In a few backward  societies a strange custom is a  found. The father takes to bed before and during delivery of the child, and may even exhibit pregnancy symptoms and pangs of child birth. They  believe that it  helps  drawing evil influence away from the wife as well as baby.

The Girl's Hymen is ruptured in a ceremony
In certain societies of India and Africa a religious rite is practiced to deflore a girl's hymen.
A girl's  hymen is also called maiden head. It is ruptured by squatting on a lingam  or artificial  penis, which symbolically represents the God Shiva. The ceremony may take place in front of a whole group, and is followed by a celebration. In African societies  it may be performed by an elderly woman.

Most of the Men are Homosexuals
Andaman is an island in the Bay of Bengal. Most of its inhabitants  are monogamous women . In the early time before independence  most of the men were reported to be homosexual. They obtain sexual arousal by nose rubbing and sniffing rather than kissing. Rear entry has been said to be the position used with women. With the advancement of educational  facilities and communication they are gradually changing their way of life.

They Practiced ritual Nakedness
During the  early modern  era, in Holland and Germany there lived a Christian  sect known as Adamite. They lived without enjoying any physical pleasure. They were doing so far religious reasons. They also practiced rituals nakedness in secret gatherings and engaged in sexual intercourse without being married. They firmly believed they had been reborn into a state of innocence. According to Holy Bible, adam the first man lives naked. These people also called themselves Adamite.

They start their married life late
Caucasian people being to the race that has white or pale skin. Among them Abkhazians are famous for their remarkable  longevity. The main secret of their longevity is, they have sexual vigour even in old age. They start  regular sexual  relationship late in life. During  their youth, many people  maintain celibacy. They enjoy sex even at the age of 100 years for the reason is marriage systems.

Beware! SEX is becoming trendy...

This is the era of séx marketing. If you turn right, séx leaps into your face; if you turn left, séx jumps at you. In the street, in the shopping mall, in the church, in the office, on your computer and phone, and even in your living room, séx chases you around.

Séx – subtle or barefaced – has become all-pervasive in our society. Our society has become so séx-charged that the safety of our children is no longer guaranteed. Before, the rule was that during the children’s belt on TV, materials with adult content were not shown.

Then there are the so-called Nigerian and Ghanaian home videos that are anything but homely. Even though many of these films are rated 16 or 18, they are shown on regular TV stations during the day when children are home watching TV. Even within early news bulletins when families are expected to be watching TV, film trailers with smooching scenes are advertised. What do you do?
These days, the only things that are not shown on our TV from morning to about 10 pm are commercials of alcoholic beverages. Any other thing goes. At such periods, TV stations are competing on which will show more Mexican soaps featuring deep kissing and erotic scenes every five minutes. Almost all the stations dedicate about two hours per day to music videos with bikini-clad girls dancing with men with lewd abandon.

Ban your children from watching TV? That is not an option for me. The only thing within my power is that I have ensured that they do not watch any TV/video material that is rated over 13. But what do I do when these adult materials are slotted into family belts?

If I drive to the news vendor with my children in the car, there are pornography magazines littering the table that it becomes a crime taking children to such a place.

If I drive into a filling station or drop by the post office to check mails, I am confronted by some men selling the local Viagra. The horrible thing about these men is that they flash their products with obscene pictures as you are parking. On one occasion at the car park at Ikeja General Post Office, Lagos, my children were in the car when one of these unscrupulous men flashed their séx-dripping packs at the car window, saying: "Oga, man power!" I was so angry I felt like slapping him.

What one sees at social events is another story altogether because of the if-you’ve-got-it-flaunt-it policy that is in vogue. One does not complain because it is a free world. But the one that surprises one as inexplicable is seeing grandmothers in some churches trying to outdo teenage girls on who would flaunt a deeper cleavage.

Even the social networks are constantly attacked by séx hackers. A couple of times, Facebook was attacked with pornographic pictures littering everywhere. The network always reacted as fast as it can to cleanse its channel. But with such fears and also the possibility of some mindless people posting nude or semi-nude pictures, one has to be careful not to leave one’s laptop facing the children anytime one is on the social network.

Yahoo is not left out of the séx bait. In recent times, Yahoo has been showing adverts of girls with plunging neckline asking you to chat with them. Sometimes the picture of a girl pops up by your Yahoo home page asking to click on her and undress her. Such adverts confirmed to me that Facebook had eaten so deep into Yahoo’s business that Yahoo does not have any scruples about collecting all kinds of adverts. To check my emails on Yahoo, I have to turn my screen away from my children to avoid such pictures flashing in their face.

Then there are the hordes of bloggers who want to draw traffic to their sites so as to start making money from advertising. One common way they use for this is to post sensual adverts on the internet urging you to click and see what one celebrity did with another celebrity. Knowing the power of séx, they believe that with such a bait, people would click and be taken to their blogs, which have counters that record the number of visitors.

Also, any time I attend a party like a birthday and children are told to dance, I always feel embarrassed at the type of érotic moves made by girls who are less than 10 years old. At one of such parties, a friend whose eight-year-old girl came first in the dancing competition was so shocked at the way her daughter wriggled her waist and backside that she vowed that she would not allow her watch music videos on TV anymore. The dancing of the little girl looked more like what a professional strip tease woman would do rather than what a girl of eight would do. The mother confessed that she had seen her daughter dance with her siblings and friends now and then but had never seen her dance in such an obscene way.

Furthermore, a contemporary novel that is not dripping with séx is “archaic.” I remember reading Half of a Yellow Sun of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie some years ago, and when my niece in secondary school saw me with it and asked me to give it to her after reading it, I told her stories for weeks, all in a bid not to let her have the book. I told myself that I would not be the one to give her a novel with so many love-making scenes. If she had to get such a book, let her get it herself, not through me.
In the same vein, I heard of one of the rave-making novels of the world in recent years, which was described as a success story in self-publishing, and decided to read it: 50 Shades of Grey by E. L. James. I only read a few pages and stopped. Almost every other page featured raw séx, violent séx, animalistic séx. The “novel” is just an out-and-out porno book: the only thing missing in it are pictures! Sir Salman Rushdie said about the book: “I’ve never read anything so badly written that got published.” Many authorities have described its prose as low, yet the book has sold 90 million copies since 2011!

It is obvious that most people have realised that nothing sells like séx. So, they therefore exploit séx as sale bait: whatever negative consequence on society is not their business.

Nobody knows if the recent high rate of rapé in our society has any connection with all these factors that have made our society séxually charged. Because we live in a free society, the dress code of people may not be determined by law, but the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission has the power to regulate what should be shown on TV when our children are awake and watching TV. Those who sell the local Viagra in packs decorated with glossy obscene pictures need to be arrested or chased out of public places.

Interestingly, any time one complains about the all-pervasive séx in our society, one is either told to close one’s eyes, or to stop being a hypocrite. But surprisingly, I have never seen any of these so-called non-hypocrites have séx in broad daylight by the roadside or in the market. Among human beings, sex is a private thing, done behind closed doors. Only animals have séx in the public.

An adult mind may not be adversely affected by séxually explicit materials, but exposing our children to such materials has a very negative impact on them. We must not fold our arms and wave it off as modernity.

Twitter Tip: What is a hashtag (#) on Twitter?

posted by Alicia in Twitter
What's a hashtag? tweetLucy asks me a question on Twitter
My Twitter buddy @LucyBakerMakeup asked me a question about hashtags (see above) so here’s a quick #101. :)

Twitter Hashtag 101

A hashtag groups tweets together on a particular subject. When you add a ‘#’ directly in front of a word (or acronym) on Twitter – a link is automatically created. This is called a hashtag. When you click on the link you will see all the latest tweets containing that hashtag, making them easy to find among the millions of tweets sent each day.
Hashtags are user generated. Their popularity has grown organically to become part of Twitter culture and a valuable tool for users. Here’s why…
  • You can use a hashtag to follow or search tweets on a topic of interest. That may be an organised event, TV programme, noteworthy cause, breaking or running news story, or group conversation taking place on Twitter. They’re valuable in emergency situations and relief efforts too.

  • You can add a hashtag to your message so it reaches more people – your tweet is seen by your followers and anyone following the hashtag.
  • Often users will use a hashtag to add context or irony to a message, #fail and #justsayin being examples of this.
A #justsayin tweet from Francisco RosalesUseful tip from Francisco Rosales
  • The most popular hashtag is probably #followfriday or #ff – you can read more about Follow Friday here.
  • You can create a hashtag to generate interest around an organised event making it easy for attendees to meet others, or allow those who can’t attend to keep up to date with latest goings on. They are great for making real life connections, finding people with mutual interests, and creating desire and buzz around your event with the ‘Hey, I’m missing out!’ factor.

Sounds good. How do I get one?

Hashtags are not an official feature of Twitter. This makes it difficult to find the origin or reason for a hashtag (particularly if it’s a weird acronym) or stop other users adopting a hashtag that’s already in use. Hashtags.org is one of the better websites to use if you want to find out the meaning behind a hashtag. Anyone can create a hashtag but before you do consider these tips:
  1. Make it short, memorable and appropriate. No one wants to type a long hashtag or use up valuable space imposed by the 140 character limit in a post
  2. When you’ve decided on your chosen hashtag – check it’s not already in use. You could have chosen something that will have negative connotations. It’s simple to check – just search for the hashtag you’ve chosen and if it’s already taken, find another
  3. If your hashtag includes more than one word, like ‘World Cup’, remember to close the space between the words (like this: #worldcup) otherwise your hashtag could take on another meaning (#world cup – ‘world’ will become the hashtag)
  4. If your tag is for an event remember to tell people before, during and after, and encourage them to use it so your message and buzz spreads virally

What else you should know…

If you’re going to use hashtags in your tweets, don’t overdo it by putting a # in front of every word. Not only is it spammy and annoying to read, your message really won’t make sense.
Also, don’t hijack a popular hashtag that has no relevance to your message just to get your tweet seen. This is spam and you may be reported by a disgruntled user, or worse.

How to use the @ symbol on twitter

People still don't know how to use Twitter.
You'd think it would be easy, but it's not. We see one big mistake over and over that drives us crazy.
So as a public service announcement, and a quick way to deal with our irrational frustration, we're going to do a two-second explainer on how to tweet using the "@" symbol.
Ready? Here goes ...

When you @ someone, the only people who see the message are the people that follow you and follow the person you are @-ing.

So, if we write, "@thestalwart you are one smart dude!" The followers who don't follow @thestalwart don't see the message. Why? Because if they saw us tweeting at people it would be a confusing one-sided conversation. If they follow both of us, then they can follow the conversation.

Now, let's say we want everyone to see the message we are sending to @thestalwart. How do we make that happen? With a "." So, it would be, ".@thestalwart You're a genius!"
You don't have to use a period. You could use any character. You could write, ">@thestalwart you rock!"
The period seems to be the most popular one, though.
Anyway, that's it!
It's simple, but people still get confused.
Here's some common mistakes:
There is no need for a "." in front of an RT, which means "Retweet." We've seen people tweet, ".RT@thestalwart You so smart!" or we've seen, "You are so smart .@thestalwart, can I get your autograph?"

In those tweets, the "." is not necessary. Why? Because there are characters in front of the Twitter handle.
Do you have any questions about using Twitter? Ask in the comments and we'll answer! Don't worry about asking a dumb question, you're anonymous.

Know your tyre

Tyres are important components of any vehicle. The stability of the vehicle depends, among other things, on the integrity of the tyres it’s seating on. The joy or the discomfiture of a ride cannot be separated from the condition of the tyres.
Tyres conventionally carry a lot of valuable information on its outer body: the number beside the “psi” indicates the maximum number of air pressure that must be pumped into the tyre. But it’s better to give emphasis to the vehicle’s manufacturer’s recommended psi (which can be found on the plate sticker usually attached to the driver’s side door-post) instead of the tyre’s manufacturer’s specification that’s spelt out on it.

Tyres also bear a 4-digit numerical mark that states the week and the year of their manufacture (for example, “4106” means the forty-first week, “41”, of the year two thousand and six, “06”). This information is very important; the life span of tyres, either they’re put to use or not used at all, is five years. So, if tyres are ostensibly looking totally new, indeed if they’ve never been used at all, but if it’s five years old, it’s already bad.

The climate in which tyres can be used is also usually specified on the tyres. There are tyres with the mark stating that they should only be used in wintery weather; these must not be used in tropical regions of the world. Other vital indicators like the alphanumeric signage that states the nominal section width of the tyre, say, “165”, stroke the “aspect ratio”, i.e. the height of the tyre sidewall as a percentage of the nominal section width, “65”, with “R” radial construction, and, “14”, the diameter of the tyre’s inner rim in inches. All these coming out as “165/65R14”, are also important in deciding which tyre to buy for a vehicle and a defined purpose.

The information that is seldom understood and adhered to is the load capacity of a tyre, say “79” on the attached picture below, and the tyre speed rating-i.e. the maximum speed for the tyre at full load-usually depicted as an alphabetical letter, “T” in our pictorial sample (- M: 81mph or 130 km/h, – N: 87 mph or 140 km/h, – P: 93 mph or 150 km/h, – Q: 99 mph or 160 km/h, – R: 106 mph or 170 km/h, – S: 112 mph or 180 km/h, – T: 118 mph or 190 km/h, – U: 124 mph or 200 km/h, – H: 130 mph or 210 km/h, – V: 149 mph or 240 km/h, – Z: in excess of 149 mph or 240 km/h plus, – W: 168 mph or 270 km/h, – Y: 186 mph or 300 km/h), should reasonably be subjected to.

Sterio.me-A Mobile Learning Technology for Primary/Secondary Educators in Africa aims to launch in Nigeria

Sterio.me Team.L-R: Dean Rotherham,Danielle Reid and Chris Pruijsen

Sterio.me Team.L-R: Dean Rotherham,Danielle Reid and Chris Pruijsen

Technology has increasingly changed the way we learn. For Africa especially Nigeria, with the rapid increase in the use of mobile phones and the growth in Mobile Internet, Technology enhanced learning will no doubt offer great opportunity for the nation.

One of such technologies set to empower and improve learning for Primary and Secondary Schools in Africa is Sterio.me which is to be launched in Nigeria soon.
Sterio.me, the revolutionary educational technology that was founded on the StartupBus Africa by Christopher Pruijsen (CEO), Dean Rotherham (Product) and Danielle Reid (Design), is now looking for partners to launch with in Nigeria.

Sterio.me engages learners outside the classroom, to reinforce in-classroom learning.A “Sterio” is an interactive audio lesson, which is per-recorded by the Educator and delivered via an sms-triggered inbound voice call to the learner, in order to reinforce in-classroom content. It is such that every lesson contains 10 minutes of audio content and questions, and teachers receive instant feedback on learner performance, saving them hours each day on marking assignments.
The learning platform is completely free for both the Educators and the Learners, and the data collected will be shared freely with local and national governments and ministries.

The team at Sterio.me has a proven track record of success, and collectively co-founded StartupBus Africa, FounderBus UK, Shopbeat.co.za,Capsule.fm and now Sterio.me. The team also is part of the prestigious World Economic Forum Global Shapers, Sandbox Network and Kairos Society communities, and has been invited to pitch as Grand Finalists at both the Harvard Africa Business Conference and Mobile World Congress competitions.
In Tanzania the company has secured Mr.Ezekiel Oluoch, the deputy Secretary General of the Tanzania Teacher Union, as well as Mr. Joseph Mmbando, retired former director of the Ministry of Education, as advisors.

The sterio.me team seeks partners from Nigeria to make this project a huge success for Nigerian pupils and students.
As ideal partners the team identifies three stakeholders:
1. Governments, in order to gain endorsement so that Sterio.me can work in state schools, and for support in the creation of localised content in the form of Sterio lessons that are in-line with national curriculum.
2. Teacher unions, for their endorsement, which is a per-requisite to achieve adoption amongst teachers.
3. Telecommunication providers, to sponsor the broadcasting of educational content via the GSM networks.
For the initial Nigeria-based pilot, which the Sterio.me CEO Chris Pruijsen says can be organised as early as mid-April, they would only need to work with one to five schools for an intense programme during which they test the technology with teachers and learners.

How I Found the Courage to Quit My Job

Courage is being scared to death, but saddling up anyway. ~John Wayne
I took a bold step last year: I quit my dead-end job to follow my dream. I’m not going to lie to you and say it was easy. It wasn’t. But over time, it became easier than living through the torture my day-to-day life had become.
Many people would happily follow their passion if they only knew what it was. Others recognize their passion and long to follow it, but don’t have the necessary courage to take that path.
That was me.
By the age of 22, I already knew that an independent freelance lifestyle would suit me best, and I envisioned a future working with animals, and writing. But life led me down a very different path – one that was admittedly easier, but left me feeling like a square peg in a round hole. I took the safe, traditional route and spent years in a series of office jobs that made me desperately unhappy.
After 18 painful years and the inevitable bout of burn-out in the job I was in, I came face to face with myself. In that light bulb moment, I knew that moving to another job wasn’t going to solve the problem. I was going to be just as unhappy in the next job.
Something else had to change.
A lot of careful thought went into this, and when I made the decision I was realistic about it. I knew that I wouldn’t be making much money initially. But if other people could make money in the fields I longed to be in, why couldn’t I? It might not be easy, but I was coming up on my 40th birthday and realized I’d wasted half my life in jobs I hated.
I had hit my mid-life crisis.
As scary as this decision was, what scared me even more was the thought of waking up at 60 having wasted my entire working life being miserable. I already dreaded my 40th birthday – still sitting at the same desk, in the same company, doing the same job, being happy! The road ahead might not be easy, but it had to be easier than what I would be leaving behind.
Nothing is harder than living in misery.
The minute I handed in my resignation, I felt a huge weight being lifted off my shoulders. I slept for 12 hours straight that night and it was the most amazing sleep of my life – the sleep of a free woman. The next morning, the view out my apartment window looked sharper and the colors seemed brighter. The world looked more beautiful to me than ever.
I was finally free!
Like many people out there I am not cut out for the cubicle corporate life. Getting up every morning at the same time, driving the same route, sitting at the same desk… 9-5 clock-watching, office politics, submission to authority, performance appraisals, having to “earn” time off (or feign sickness) just to get a day of my own life back – I hated it all. It made me feel trapped! I cannot begin to express how soul-withering those 18 years of my life were. They sucked the life right out of me and almost totally destroyed my spirit.
So why did it take me 18 years to escape this torture?

1. Social Conditioning Is Powerful

We are taught from a very young age that we should study subjects both useful and lucrative in order to get a job at a company that will pay us well to do it.
Most of our parents did it, their parents did it, and generations before them did it. Therefore, naturally we believe that this is the way life works.
Not that there’s anything wrong with that if it works for you. But for years, I had wondered: “Isn’t there a better way to live?”
I felt strongly that I was not fulfilling either my real purpose or my true potential, but rather doing what I assumed society expected of me.

2. I Had Bills to Pay

When there’s a family to support, you can’t just give up a job no matter how unhappy it makes you. Even as a single person, I felt I couldn’t pursue working with animals or writing because I’d convinced myself that the pay was so much less that I wouldn’t be able to make ends meet.
But I had some control over my expenses. By simplifying life and downsizing your budget, you too may find you can live on a lot less than you think. You may not be able to quit your job today, but you can start saving and planning your new future right this minute.
You can slowly build up your business while still in your current job.

3. FEAR – It Can Be Paralyzing

Giving up a secure, stable job is scary. A 9-5 job means a guaranteed paycheck, medical insurance, retirement savings. It’s comfortable – and breaking out of your comfort zone is not easy.
The known is safe, and the unknown is frightening. Fear can keep us paralyzed if we let it. But nothing will change. Is it worth it to let the fear control you? It won’t be when your comfort zone gets to be uncomfortable enough.
~
Choosing a new path is both exciting and daunting. In the beginning it almost certainly won’t be easy. The path ahead is winding and bumpy and may be obscured by twists and turns. You cannot see where it leads. But everyone who chooses a new path has to decide to take the risk.
So how do you stay inspired? How do you keep going when the going gets tough?

1. Celebrate the Small Milestones

For me, it was landing a writing job with a new online news website. It was not initially a paid gig, but it gave me a chance to start building a portfolio. This was so exciting!
What was even more exciting (and completely unexpected) was that I received a small cash compensation for my first 3 articles because the editors liked them so much. This was a big deal – my first paycheck as a writer! I was over the moon! I framed a copy of that check and hung it over my desk. It is my constant reminder that living this dream is possible.
Savor the small or big accomplishments along the way and use the momentum they create to push you forward – one small step at a time

2. Visualize: Keep Your Eye on the Goal

This may seem difficult at first, but most teachers of positive thinking and goal-setting emphasize the importance of visualization. You might be surprised at how effective this technique is in helping you succeed at whatever you set out to do.
From running a marathon to traveling to foreign countries to buying your dream house – whatever it is – see yourself crossing that finish line, sitting in a gondola in Venice, holding the keys to the front door of that house.
Literally, see the picture in your mind and keep it there until it becomes reality.

3. Only Associate with Supportive Friends & Family

Surround yourself with people who want to see you succeed, even if it means meeting new people. Join groups in your field, volunteer in the career you want to move into, read the blogs of people who did the same thing you are trying to do.
Avoid any and all negative people who discourage you. If necessary, cut them out of your life completely.
You need people who lift you up rather than bring you down…always.

4. Savor Your Progress

Look behind you occasionally. Do you really want to give up and go back? Probably not. You may be making headway very slowly, but at least you’re finally going in the right direction!
The only way to keep making life better is to keep moving forward.

Living your dreams probably isn’t going to be easy. If it were, everyone would be doing it. But when it all does come together and it works out for you, think about how worthwhile all your sacrifice and struggle will have been. Think of how amazing it will be!
I remind myself of this every day.
As Theodore Roosevelt said, “It is hard to fail, but it is worse never to have tried to succeed.
And Thomas Edison, who finally invented a working light bulb after about 10,000 unsuccessful attempts, pragmatically stated, “I did not fail 10,000 times, I found 10,000 ways that did not work.” I love his positive perspective!
Failures will knock us down along the way, but as long as we don’t give them the power to stop us, we can still win the race.
